3 Reasons to start an Internet Business Today!
Why am I going to start an Internet Business?
I have heard the breakthrough stories and listened intently to well established success stories. The thought of being my own boss and earning an income from the comfort of my own home … what’s not to like? As great as it all sounds where do you even begin if you want to start an internet business? With the first step as the proverb goes.
SelfEvolve.com is dedicated to the journey of creating the lifestyle and business that means the most to me. Now does that mean I am looking to make millions? Become the next Internet phenomenon? Not necessarily. It would be nice, but it is not my goal.
I am spending the next 12 months seeing if it is possible to start an internet business that will generate %50 of my current traditional salary.
The key drivers for me wanting to start an internet business were simple.
– Currently I spend roughly 60-65 hours a week actively working for someone else. Add to that the 10-12 hours that are spent directly supporting that work (commute, travel, late night client crisis, etc.) Thats over 70 hours a week that I am away from my home and family. I will be honest, and say, I get paid very well for that time. The problem is, no matter how well I get paid, the 70 hours a week I spend to earn that income are dictated by someone else. Tim Ferris of the 4 Hour Work Week is often heard to say and I am paraphrasing, ‘Time is the most valuable non-renewable resource.’ Think about that, there is currently no way to recoup time that has already been spent. Keeping that in mind, the single biggest driver for me wanting to start an internet business, is to set the value of my own time.
– The value of my time and energy should be driven by my priorities and desires. In my case if I am working 70-75 hours per week, then the value of my salary is nearly cut in half. Think about that. Many people are in the same place I am when it comes to working exorbitant hours for a job.
If for example your salary is $60,000 per year that works out to roughly $30/hour (60,000 / 2000) based on a typical 40 hour work week. (A typical working year has 2000 hours – 50 weeks * 40 hours). If you actually spend 70-75 hours a week you are being paid $17.15/hr. (60,000 / (50 * 70))
You can see that the value of your time actually decreases with the extra work you perform. I would rather set the value of my own time.
– Probably one of the most common reasons people choose to start an internet business, is the lifestyle that it can offer. I am no different. I would much rather be able to walk downstairs in the mornings, grab a cup of coffee and prioritize my own career. Working from home will provide me the chance to spend more time with loved ones, choose when and how to work on my tasks for any given day, and enjoy more of what life has to offer since I will be in control of my schedule. If all of this can be done while still wearing my pajamas … All the better.
SO …. Now we know why I want to start an internet business. I am sure that many of you have similar reasons for wanting to as well. Keep following along to see the lessons I learn along the way.
